Gold Coast T100 Race Report: Lessons from Winning the Age Group

Looking back on the Gold Coast T100 a few months later, it's still one of the most memorable races I've been part of.

Every race teaches you something, and this one reinforced a lesson I often share with my athletes: trust the process. Consistent training, patience and making good decisions under pressure are what make the difference when it matters most.

The swim and bike put me in a good position, but the race really unfolded on the run. For much of it, I was shoulder to shoulder with Glen Strutt and Matt Jackson. We traded the pace, tested each other and kept the pressure on right to the closing kilometres. I

With around two kilometres to go, I committed to a surge and was fortunate enough to open a small gap that I could hold to the finish, taking the tape in the Open Age Group in 3:34:05.

One of the reasons I still love racing is that it keeps me connected to what my athletes experience. The nerves before the start, the decisions you make under fatigue, and the confidence that comes from trusting your preparation are things you can only truly understand by putting yourself on the start line.

To everyone who raced that day, congratulations. Every finish line represents months of commitment, and it was a privilege to be part of such a competitive field.
